About Lami Nnamonu

Professor Lami Nnamonu is a distinguished Nigerian chemist with a focus on agrochemicals. She earned her PhD in Agrochemical Technology, the first in sub-Saharan Africa, and has become a professor of Agrochemistry at the Federal University of Agriculture Makurdi (now Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University Makurdi). Her research helps improve agricultural productivity in the face of climate challenges.

Her research in the field of agrochemistry is helping to actualize the core mandate of her university against the backdrop of current challenges of climate disadvantages and other factors generally affecting agricultural productivity. She has served as Head of the University Pre-Degree Department and the Acting Director of the Centre for Agrochemical Technology at the Federal University of Agriculture.

Professor Nnamonu is also a skilled project manager. She is currently the Center Ldeader & Director the World Bank-funded Centre for Innovation in Procurement Environmental and Social Standards (CIPESS). Her strong work in this area was recognized with two awards at the maiden in-class project control summit held in Galvaston, USA in 2024.

Professor Nnamonu's dedication is further evidenced by her academic achievements. Her PhD thesis won the National Universities Commission (NUC)'s Nigerian Universities Doctoral Thesis Awards Scheme (NUDTAS)'s award for the best Ph.D thesis in physical sciences in 2011 and she received postdoctoral fellowships from the Schlumberger Foundation. She is a respected scholar and the first female Professor of Chemistry in Benue State.

She’s married to Dr Emmanuel Nnamonu (MBBS) and they are blessed with five children.
